Why I’ve Got Rid of My Make-Up

IMG_0687

I have Alex drawers full of make-up, make-up that I’ve never used, make-up I tried and hated, make-up that I like but just don’t get around to using.

Why? Why do I have all of this make-up? I really like make-up, I like finding a product that works for me, one that suits my skin tone and that I love. But why do we need so much?

I get that people collect things, whether that’s stamps, trains, or whatever floats your boat. And there are people who collect make-up, that’s fine with me. But for me, it just seems so pointless, why was I spending so much money on something that was sat in a drawer?

So I decided to get rid of a good 80% of my collection. I kept the things I used, whether that was every day or for special occasions, and I kept my MAC lipsticks. I suppose you could say they are something that I collect, but I use them and don’t plan on buying any more soon. I have a Selfridges voucher that I was kindly given by my team before I left my job in Manchester, but Im saving it for something that I need.

I packed my collection into a bag (or two) and gave them to my mum and sister to go through. It feels so good knowing that I don’t have piles of the stuff! I just have things that I love and it just makes sense.

Whilst I love seeing people’s make-up collections, it just wasn’t something I felt happy with having. I don’t want to have to buy loads of storage for things I never even look at, let alone use.

I’m moving out at the end of the month so I feel my huge make-up overhaul has come at a perfect time. I will only have to take what I love with me!

Would you consider having a complete make-up collection overhaul?

  1. I love the idea of doing this but I don’t think I ever could. My collection is huge and I’m the same, I don’t use all of it but I’m so attached to it all. But good on you for doing something I couldn’t.

P.s. I love your blog and always love seeing notifications in my mailbox. 🙂

    1. Yay! It’s so nice to see other people use it too 🙂 my mum works with disadvantaged families and a 15 year old doesn’t have any make-up and just wants nail polish, so some of it is making its way to her 🙂

  2. I am a beauty shopaholic and it would be extremely hard for me to get rid of a lot of my collection. But I am slowly going through my make up and giving things away that I know I wont use.

  3. Since finishing uni and having zero money I realised how much money I was wasting on makeup I never used so I’ve stopped buying stuff I dont need and am focusing on using up what I have. It feels good to know Im not wasting money and I have more room.
