The next leg of our journey was Airlie Beach which meant we were getting to the part of the trip I was most excited for… the SKY DIVE! We stayed in Airlie Central Apartments which were really nice, very central and we had a hot tub on our balcony which was all I needed.
The Skydive was the best part of my whole trip by far. It was something I’d always wanted to do and I’m so glad I waited until I was in one of the most beautiful places in the world. It was a 5:30am start but the weather was amazing and we were so lucky as it was the best weather they’d had since the Cyclone had hit weeks before our trip. We booked it the day before at Skydive Australia via the Whitsunday Central Reservation Centre and they were really helpful, it was pretty pricey but thats because we paid extra for photos and a video. I’d 100% recommend it if you are considering it, Nick was terrified and only did it because I did and he’s so glad he got up there. Incredible experience.
We drove around 40 minutes to Hideaway Bay in the afternoon after the Skydive for a bit of relaxation. It was a lovely little beach area and we spent a good couple of hours relaxing before we had to return the car.
On our second and last full day in Airlie, we booked another trip at the Reservation Centre for a half day tour to Whitehaven Bay. It was 99 AUD each which included a boat ride out to the bay as well as refreshments. There was only ourselves and one other boat trip in the area as you have to access it by boat, and it was so worth the money. The beach was absolutely amazing and it was a dream how quiet it was. I’d recommend taking a bit of a picnic and a few drinks and relaxing for a few hours.
Food-wise, we actually ate McDonalds whilst there – who doesn’t love testing out McDonalds abroad!? We also ate at a really nice Italian called La Tabella and a lovely place called Side Walk Cafe, the service there was so good. There are so many places to eat at Airlie Beach, you won’t struggle to find somewhere!
Overall, we both really liked Airlie beach and it’s a must-do, especially if you are considering a skydive – there is no better place than over the Whitsundays!
